CCleaner just became worse. The popular system-cleaning tool now always runs in the background, nagging you and reporting anonymous data back to the company’s servers. We don’t recommend you upgrade to CCleaner 5.45. Here’s what you should use instead.
The Piriform CCleaner for Windows 10 also extract unnecessary files to free up memory, and it can also help the system runs faster. The PC Cleaner free download also scans your entire system and each and every application to removes unwanted files or applications to free up disk memory.
We haven’t been huge fans of CCleaner for a while now. CCleaner nags you to run it because the paid subscription can automatically run itself—you’re paying to disable the nags. CCleaner has even been hacked to contain malware.
Free Up Space
Windows has a built-in Disk Cleanup tool, and it works very well. Microsoft has been improving it, and it works even better in the latest versions of Windows 10. This tool removes temporary files, previous Windows installations, log files, old Windows updates, thumbnails, and various other cache files. If you’ve never run it, you can probably free up a few gigabytes of space by doing so. We don’t recommend a CCleaner alternative because Windows can already do a great job at freeing up space.
To access the Free Up Space tool on Windows 10, head to Settings > System > Storage and click “Free Up Space Now” under Storage Sense. Windows will automatically scan for files you can delete. Check the files you want to delete and click “Remove files” to get rid of them.
Warning: If you check “Recycle Bin,” Windows will also empty your Recycle Bin. Be sure you don’t want to recover any deleted files from your Recycle Bin before checking this option.

On Windows 7, you can launch the classic “Disk Cleanup” tool from your Start menu to delete these files. The classic desktop Disk Cleanup tool is still included on Windows 10, but the new interface in Settings does the same thing and runs a bit faster.

Manage Startup Programs
CCleaner can manage your startup programs, but Windows 10 has this feature built in. To access Windows 10’s startup manager, head to Settings > Apps > Startup. You can see how much “impact” apps have on your startup process and toggle startup programs on or off from here. A startup program with “high impact” slows things down more than one with “low impact.”
You can also launch the Task Manager, click the “Startup” tab, and manage startup programs from here. This works the same as the interface in the Settings app, but is also available on Windows 8. On Windows 7, you will need something like MSConfig to manage startup programs.
Clear Your Web Browsing Tracks
You don’t need a third-party program to wipe your browser history, cookies, and cache files. Your browser can handle this for you.
In fact, you shouldn’t even need to clear your browsing data in the first place. Just use private browsing mode whenever you want to access a sensitive website without any history being saved to your computer. If you never want your browser saving any private data, you can make your browser always start in private browsing mode. This is better than clearing your browsing data in CCleaner, as it prevents that data from being created in the first place.

To occasionally clear your browsing data, you can use the “Clear Browsing Data” tool built into your web browser of choice. Browsers now have easy tools that can handle this in a few clicks.
We don’t recommend constantly clearing your browsing data or always running in private browsing mode. You’ll have to keep logging into the websites you use every time you open your browser, as their cookies won’t be kept on your PC. Deleting your cache files will slow down your web browsing, too. But, if you want to clear this data anyway, your browser has you covered.

Find the Files Wasting Space on Your Computer
To hunt down what’s actually using up space on your computer, install a disk space analyzer like WinDirStat. This tool scans your hard drive and shows you a graphical representation of what’s using space on your computer, sorting folders and files from the ones using the most space to the least. This works like the Disk Analyzer tool in CCleaner, but with a better interface that makes it easier to see what’s using space.
If you have some big files hiding somewhere on your computer, you’ll find them with this tool and you can remove them manually. If the files in question are part of a program, you should uninstall the program from your computer to remove them. If they’re temporary, cache, or data files, you can probably just delete them. You may want to perform a web search for the name of the files or the folder they’re in before deleting them—just to confirm you’re not deleting anything important.
Some programs do waste space. For example, NVIDIA’s graphics drivers use about 1 GB of space on your computer for old driver installers. Thankfully, NVIDIA told us they now automatically delete older driver versions, so this folder shouldn’t continually grow in size. You may need to delete folders like this one manually if you’re really tight on space.
Encrypt Your Hard Disk to Really Cover Your Tracks
If you use CCleaner to delete usage data and “cover your tracks,” here’s a better option: Encrypt your system drive. Anyone who gains access to your computer will need your password to decrypt your hard disk and view your files, so this is a much better method than occasionally deleting your tracks. It will protect any private files you have stored on your computer, too.
Here’s how to enable full disk encryption on your Windows 10 PC. Some Windows 10 PCs already have encryption, while others need Windows 10 Professional to enable BitLocker. if your PC didn’t come with encryption and you don’t want to pay for Windows 10 Pro, you can use VeraCrypt instead.
Most of the same tips apply to Windows 7. You can upgrade to Windows 7 Ultimate for BitLocker or install VeraCrypt for free encryption.
With your hard drive encrypted, you don’t have to worry about erasing your private data so much—whenever you turn off your computer, its hard drive will be encrypted and people will need your key to boot it up and access your data.
How to Download an Old Version of CCleaner
If you insist on using CCleaner, you may want to install an old version of it. This isn’t necessarily the best idea—old versions of CCleaner could have problems with newer versions of programs and the Windows operating system. They might remove important files and cause problems or miss cache files and not free up enough space. New versions of CCleaner sometimes fix these issues.
If you do want an old version of CCleaner, you’ll have to download it from another website. Version 5.45 of CCleaner forces Active Monitoring, so you may want to download version 5.44 from a website like UptoDown.
To prevent CCleaner from checking for updates, launch CCleaner and click Options > Settings. Uncheck the “Inform me of updates to CCleaner” option here.
You can also disable System Monitoring from Options > Monitoring, and deactivate analytics from Options > Privacy.
Again, this is a short term solution. CCleaner may stop working well if you stick to an old version for years.
CCleaner has quite a few tools that you don’t need, either. For example, you just don’t need a registry cleaner. While there may be some outdated entries in your registry, they take up a miniscule amount of space and don’t slow your computer down.
For anything else in CCleaner you might want, you can find a CCleaner alternative. For example, if you want a list of the programs installed on your computer, you can save a list of your installed applications with a single Windows command. To find duplicate files on your PC, you can install a duplicate file finder. For anything else, you can find a built-in Windows utility or a free application that won’t nag and monitor you.

Ccleaner X64 For Windows 10
Short Bytes: Registry Cleaners are the software which does the job of removing outdated registry entries from Windows registry. These registry entries are left by some uninstalled programs or created by other Windows services. Here is a list of the top 10 free registry cleaners which you can use to keep your windows registry neat and clean.
There are a lot of Windows Registry cleaners lingering on the internet flaunting their capabilities and boasting themselves as the best. Some of them are paid and some are free. However, free registry cleaners do a perfect job and you need the paid versions only in some critical situations. The basic task a registry cleaner does is that it searches for the registry entries which are useless and deletes them. For instance, the registry entries left by a software that has been uninstalled. And it’s not the software only. Practically, everything you do on your computer creates an entry in the Windows Registry. If you are willing to know more, here’s a detailed article on the basics of Windows Registry.
Registry cleaners take the advantage of the laziness exhibited by Windows operating system. Windows OS doesn’t regularly clean the registry entries which are outdated or no longer required. That’s when the registry cleaners, which claim to magically improve your PC performance, come into the picture. They claim to fix the blue screen of death on your machine or miraculously turn your machine into a supercomputer, just saying.
Do keep in mind, using a registry cleaner won’t do any wonders to your computer. It will not boost your PC performance. They’ll only clear out unwanted or outworn registry entries. That’s an advantage and I’m not denying that. So, it is recommended to try these options as some of the free registry cleaners do offer commendable performance.

Things to consider
Dealing with registry entries shouldn’t be considered a child’s play. Therefore, you should back up all your data if you’re regularly involved in these registry cleaning tools. Otherwise, you’ll be the one responsible for your sins.
Also, the creation of new registry entries is a near-constant process. So, don’t expect any registry cleaner to wipe out all the errors in one go. Every time you make a scan new errors may pop up.
Here is a list of the top 10 free registry cleaners for Microsoft Windows:
CCleaner | Registry Cleaner Tool
This Piriform product is probably the best computer optimization freeware that I’ve used in years. CCleaner’s inbuilt registry cleaning utility does most of the job a mature registry cleaner could do. It’s neat and clean interface adds to the ease of access offered by the registry cleaning tool. It asks you whether to backup registry before making any changes. CCleaner also comes in a paid version but the freeware version would be enough for you.
CCleaner Professional, the paid version, provides automatic browser cleaning, real-time monitoring, and priority support. If these options look beneficial to you, you can grab the paid version. Get CCleaner here.
Wise Registry Cleaner | Registry Cleaner Tool
If I take the visual appearance into consideration, I would definitely give an extra point to Wise Cleaner in comparison to CCleaner. But it’s not about looking good, a registry cleaner needs to prove how well it manages your registry entries.
It includes two modes: Fast Scan and Deep Scan. One thing I like about Wise Cleaner is the categorized display of detected errors, unlike CCleaner which displays the errors in an excel sheet-like manner. It automatically backs up your registry. You can also run the wise registry cleaner from the command line. It also features a registry defrag option.
Auslogics Registry Cleaner | Registry Cleaner Tool
This free registry cleaner from Auslogics also offers a categorized view in a list form. You can tick the ones you want to fix. The interface of the Auslogics registry cleaner is simple and clean, though, not as visually appealing as of Wise Cleaner. A notable feature is that it also displays the severity of the registry error encountered.
It also automatically backs up registry changes it makes during the repair process. If you want to prevent registry backup, click Settings and click Backup Changes. You can go to the Rescue Center to revert changes made by Auslogics registry cleaner.
Glarysoft Registry Repair | Registry Cleaner Tool
Glarysoft’s Registry Repair is also a great free registry cleaner tool. It’ll automatically start the registry scan process as soon as you open the tool. It also offers automatic registry backup before making any changes to the Windows registry preventing your system from any tragic event. You can click Action to restore previous repairs made by Glarysoft registry repair.
SlimCleaner Free | Registry Cleaner Tool
The free version of the SlimCleaner registry cleaner tool offers some great functionality. Its cleaning utility provides one stop solution for all sort of cleaning rituals for your machine. But this adds a little difficulty. For instance, if you need to clean the registry only, you need to untick all checkboxes present in all other tabs. But you only have to this one time. It remembers the settings thereafter.
Easy Cleaner | Registry Cleaner Tool
This tiny program was created by a Finnish guy named Toni Helenius. The Easy Cleaner has minimalistic graphics options other than the registry cleaner. The visual appearance of the software hasn’t been updated much since its launch in 2005. It also allows you to find duplicate files and clean shortcuts pointing to nowhere.
Argente Registry Cleaner | Registry Cleaner Tool
In my tests, this free registry cleaner by Argente Utilities took the longest scan time than any other registry cleaner. It includes a wizard-based interface which lets you choose the scan categories manually or automatically. The interface is not much appealing but it is not as minimalistic as Easy Cleaner. You can undo the changes made to the registry and it also offers automatic cleaning option which will take care of your registry without any interference. It is also available as a portable version. On the downloads page, you can either go for the Argente Utilities or the Registry Cleaner only.
Eusing Free Registry Cleaner | Registry Cleaner Tool
The first thing you’ll notice about this registry cleaner is its name. It is quite different. The somewhat ugly-looking tool only offers registry cleaning and repairing option. It also has an option to restore the changes made to the registry in case anything goes wrong.
WinUtilties Registry Cleaner |Registry Cleaner Tool
It is a part of the WinUtilities suite developed by YL Software. Just like other free registry cleaners in the list, it also offers restore point creation before making changes to the registry. There is a separate registry cleaner ScanMyReg by the company which is available as paid software.
Install Ccleaner Windows 10
JetClean | Registry Cleaner Tool
The registry cleaner by BlueSprig has managed to gather some popularity. It also includes shortcuts and windows cleaning options among its offerings. One notable feature of JetClean is you can make a portable version of the software. You can the Portable option in the Tools tab.
These were the top 10 free registry cleaners. Please note that these are freeware. Hence, their installation process may include an invitation for other adware programs. They are also available as paid versions which their makers claim to be better than the free ones. You can buy if feel the need of it.
